Julie Thomson has worked for more than 30 years in journalism, across print, magazine, radio and television in Australia and in the UK.
Her extensive writing and sub-editing experience has been interspersed with several years of marketing and promotions management for two metropolitan newspapers, The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail, and serving as publicist and events manager for the Mary Ryan’s bookshop chain.
Julie has worked as a publicist for national ABC television programmes Australian Story and Gardening Australia as well as several other major documentary and film projects.
She has also conducted marketing campaigns for ABC 612 radio and worked as freelance book publicist for several national publishers.
Julie has written publicity material for organisations such as Diabetes Australia and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. She currently writes for The Courier-Mail and Brisbane lifestyle magazine BMag, in which she also writes a regular garden column, Outside, and for their online version, BMag.com.
Julie recently co-wrote and edited an anthology on 43 Caboolture women, who have contributed to the social, political and community life in the region, titled Celebrating Caboolture Women, which sold out at its launch and is currently in reprint.
She has extensive contacts across national, state, regional and local media.
Peter Thomson has worked as a news/features/sports writer and sub-editor on newspapers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom – including The Courier-Mail, Brisbane, The Evening Post, Wellington, The Star, Johannesburg, and The Daily Telegraph, London.
A former deputy sports editor/chief sports sub-editor of The Courier-Mail, he has also served as a consultant to Queensland Newspapers’ marketing and promotions department – devising and running interactive competitions — and worked as a features/supplements sub-editor for Pagemasters, servicing The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Melbourne, and The Canberra Times.
Specialising in sport for a large part of his career, Peter is the creator of Sportsword, Australia’s longest-running newspaper sports crossword (published in Queensland’s Sunday Mail), now also online (along with regular sports blogs and a footy tipping service) at www.sportsword.com.au.
He is also co-inventor of Revolver Cricket (www.revolvercricket.com), driving the promotion and marketing of a revolutionary junior development program featured on ABC TV’s The New Inventors program, endorsed by the ICC, and already generating interest in more than 25 countries across the cricketing world.
Other projects have included: writing/compiling Olympic and Commonwealth Games supplements for News Ltd publications; producing a sports crosswords book and sports crosswords for branded beer coasters; and developing the initial concept, writing the lyrics, for ABC TV’s theme song (Bring On the World) for rugby’s inaugural World Cup in 1987.
